Comparing Apples and Well, Apples

I thought this current event was pertinent to our class and visual aesthetics in general. Recently, the city of New York released a brand new logo for GreenNYC -- a city-wide plan to reduce carbon emissions by 30% the year 2030.

Sounds like that part of the plan has its heart in the right place, but what we should be concerned about is the fact that while NYC wants to trademark their apple symbol for the initiative -- Apple has something to say about. They are concerned that the program's logo looks eerily similar to the famous Apple logo.

Here is a link to the blog where I initially found this information -- Engadget.

It goes to show that on top of everything designers have to take into account when designing -- you have to keep your ear to the ground of what else is out there.
