Welcome!

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the ICM 502 blog.
As an experiment I have decided that both sections of the class post to the same blog.
I hope it will provide an oportunity for more diverse discussions, but if it will become confusing, please let me know and we will split the blogs.

I just want to say Hi, I don't think it is going to be confusing for us (friday class), but friends from saturday may have problems.
Let the race begin:))

Which websites bother you the most? I dislike ESPN.com because there is TOO much going on at once and I have no idea where things I want are. Plus, their search feature is not much of an "affordance". Which sites bother the rest of you? I'm looking at you Friday as we saw some examples of ours today.

Weather.com bothers me the most since it has to many pop-ups when you first go to the website.

Are we talking commercial websites or just websites in general? If we're talking websites in general, I find that many libraries have websites that are poorly designed and difficult to navigate (how ironic - the very places that are supposed to provide access to information). Check out Trumbull Library's website and you'll see what I mean. Also check out the University of Bridgeport's Wahlstrohm Library page. Actually, UB's website sucks period.

Anyone happen to catch Don Norman on 60 Minutes tonight? He was talking about how difficult it is for most people to use technology these days because it's becoming more and more complex. He feels it's also a result of poor design and a lack of knowledge of what people want from technology and how they use it. For example, many remotes have extra buttons that people almost never use and find confusing. I guess we could keep this in mind when designing websites, too - we shouldn't put so much on the site that it becomes confusing and difficult to use.

No, I did not watch it. But, in my Introduction to Interative class we have talked about it in the past.

i agree with espn.com...way too much going on and impossible to find what you want easily...
